NMDC resumes iron ore supply from Chhattisgarh

NMDC Ltd, India's largest iron ore producer and exporter in public sector, said it has resumed operations in the central Indian state of Chhattisgarh.

"The supply from Bailadila sector mines located at Bacheli and Kirandul complexes have returned to normalcy after hundred per cent disruption for nearly 10 days," said S.P. Himanshu, the company's deputy general manager based in Bacheli.

The operations in its key mines in Chhattisgarh accounts for two-thirds of its annual output of 25 million toes, after protests disrupted railway movements for 10 days. It also affects production at Essar Steel and Vizag Steel in Andhra Pradesh.

NMDC said it would increase supplies of iron ore in coming days to cover losses of the steelmakers. India uses around over half its annual production tons for its domestic steel industry.
