According to the data release by Trade Statistics of Japan Ministry of Finance, Japanese scrap exports amounted to about 680,000 tons in April, an increase of 4.6% from the same month of previous year. Among those, Japan exported about 456,000 tons of scrap to South Korea, rose by 28.1% year-on-year. It hit a new record high since April 2013 with 549,000 tons. South Korea was the main destination for Japanese scrap for 5 years in a row. China ranked second with about 100,000 tons, dropped by 22.4% year-on-year; the third was Vietnam with the exports which decreased significantly by 27.9% from the same month of last year. It was the new lowest point since December 2014 with about 54,000 tons. During January to April, Japan exported a total of about 2.5 million tons of scrap, down by 8.8% year-on-year. The monthly average amounted to 625,000 tons, and the yearly exports came to 7.5 million tons. South Korea accounted for 62.1% of the total at about 1.55 million tons, grew by 12.7% compare with the same period of last year. Vietnam ranked second with 430,000 tons, accounting for 17.2%, down by 1% year-on-year. China dropped dramatically by 45.6% with 339,000 tons, accounting for 13.5%.
