The Indian auto industry produced a total 1,935,311 vehicles including passenger vehicles, commercial vehicles, 3 wheelers and 2 wheelers in January 2014 as against 1,840,977 in January 2013, registering a growth of 5.12% over the same month last year. The growth continues to be on account of growth in two wheelers production. The overall domestic sales during April to January 2014 grew marginally by 2.46% over the same period last year because of growth in 2 wheelers sales. The sales of Passenger Vehicles declined by (-) 6.13% during April to January 2014 over the same period last year. Within the Passenger Vehicles, Passenger Cars, Utility Vehicles and Vans dropped by (-) 5.22%, (-) 4.59% and (-) 16.81% respectively during April to January 2014 compared to the same period last year. The overall Commercial Vehicles segment registered a de-growth of (-) 18.63% in April to January 2014 as compared to the same period last year. Medium & Heavy Commercial Vehicles (M&HCVs) registered negative growth at (-) 26.08% and Light Commercial Vehicles also dropped by (-) 14.79%. Three Wheelers sales declined by (-) 11.07% in April to January 2014 over the same period last year. Passenger Carriers and Goods Carriers declined by (-) 12.64% and (-) 3.74% respectively in April to January 2014 over April to January 2013. Source - Strategic Research Institute
