Update on FCDA foundry park in Howrah
Project Monitor reported that the tender process for infrastructure in the foundry park to be developed at Howrah in Hooghly district of West Bengal by the Foundry Cluster Development Association, a special purpose vehicle is in progress.
Mr Tapash Chatterjee CEO cum Secretary Foundry Cluster Development Association said that "Nearly 126 members have evinced interest in the project."
Mr Chatterjee said that phase-I, comprising 75 units would come up on 270 acres. The tender will be finalized by the end of January 2009 and work will be implemented for 12 to 14 months from the zero date of award of contract. He said that "We have entrusted IL&FS for project consultancy."
The park, coming up on 926 acres at Ranihati-Amta road, 5 kilometer off NH-6 in Howrah will house 150 units. The project is estimated to cost INR 2,500 crore. Once complete the park will give a boost to the metallurgical sector. One phase of the park would also include a special economic zone. The total investments envisaged in the park will be of the order of nearly INR 700 crore, apart from the cost of land.
As per report, the other facilities include improvement in environment by way of greenery all around, providing adequate sewerage and effluent disposal, water bodies to meet ecological balance of the area, minimum withdrawal of underground water resource etc.
The new foundry park will accommodate modernization, expansion and relocation program of foundries in Howrah and other parts of the country through cluster approach, enabling them to capitalize on the increased demand in both domestic and international markets. The park will have provision and infrastructure for technology transfer, R&D and marketing setup. It will have essential infrastructure and modern facilities including adequate road network, power and water distribution and drainage systems, an information, marketing and management upgradation centre, common facilities including tool room, testing laboratory and material handling equipment, industrial training institute, guesthouse, canteen and allied facilities.
