Tulsi sees opportunity in global warming

Mr Tulsi Tanti, who has just bought German turbine maker REpower, ventured into the business of wind energy by matter of chance when he observed huge cost of energy in his textile plants. In his textile business he observed that he was paying 25% of total cost for electric energy. So in order to save cost of electiricity in his textile plant he installed a wind turbine to offset the high cost of electricity He realised that alternate means of energy will have big potential & this brought him into the business of wind energy.

He saw big opportunity in this business of wind energy & focused his resources on building a business & this company overtook Siemens to be world’s top 5 wind enegy company

Mr Tanti now believes that there is now a big opportunity for his company Suzlon Energy in rising international concern over global warming and climate change caused by the burning of fossil fuels.

"Wind energy can, and will, play one of the most important roles in saving the world of tomorrow" Tanti said. "We drive our business as a cause, where we power a greener tomorrow."

Fossil fuels are the world's biggest source of energy but burning them also produces heat-trapping greenhouse gases which contribute to global warming.

Tanti estimates that demand for wind power will grow 25 percent a year as governments encourage the use of more environment-friendly alternative energy sources, notably after oil prices more than doubled since the Iraq war began.

India's crude oil imports jumped 30 % approx to 57US Billion dollars in the year ended March.

India is the potential world's fourth-largest market by annual capacity addition for wind power.

Vivek Kher, a vice president and spokesman at Suzlon, said it was Tanti's experience in finding an alternative energy source for his textile plant that turned him on to the potential of wind power. According to Mr Kher There are no major renewable energy sources that can compete with wind energy. There is a huge gap in supply & demand & capacity building in wind energy sector has been witheld due to shortage of components for the wind turbines.

Suzlon, acquired recently a Belgium manufacturer of turbine gear-boxes &, is setting up foundry and forging facilities for wind-turbine components in Baroda and Coimbatore. Sulzon is having a present caapcity of 2700 MW which is likely to go up to 4500 MW by next Financial Year
