Indonesia calls coal producers to renegotiate export prices
Reuters reported that Indonesian government has asked 6 miners to temporarily halt exports because they are charging too little. They have been asked to use the Indonesia Coal Price Index as a benchmark to review their selling price.
The companies told to suspend exports are
- PT Antang Gunung Meratus
- PT Sumber Kurnia Buana
- PT Kadya Caraka Mulia
- PT Baramarta
- PT Bangun Dahva Persada
- PT Tanjung Alam Jaya
Mr Bambang Gatot Ariyono director of coal and mineral resources at the energy ministry said that the companies, whose combined annual exports reach 9.3 millions tonnes, have stopped exporting coal since July. He said "The companies have long-term contracts to sell coal at an average price of USD 34 per tonne."
He added that "They can resume export once they have agreed on higher prices. Three of the companies have agreed to raise prices."
