India becomes member of ISO Council
India has been elected again as a member of International Organisation for Standardisation Council after a gap of five years. "By becoming the member of ISO Council for 2008-09, India would be at an advantageous position to influence the functioning of the ISO and effectively safeguard the interests of the Indian industry and the consumers," an official release on Wednesday said. The council is the highest governing body of the International Standards Organisation. It decides on policy issues relating to formulation of ISO Standards, quality verification system, identifying needs of standardisation of developing countries and others.
