HEC sees growth in space, defence and nuclear energy

BL reported that Ranchi based Heavy Engineering Corporation is exploring new business opportunities in sectors such as defense, space, power and nuclear energy.

Giving this information at the company's 50th annual general meeting held recently, Mr GK Pillai CMD of Heavy Engineering Corporation said that special forgings had been supplied to Bhabha Atomic Research Centre and a MoU signed with Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd for supplying forgings and castings for the power sector.

Mr Pillai said that "HEC's capabilities and contributions towards space and nuclear sector have been appreciated by Dr Anil Kakodkar, Chairman, Atomic Energy Commission and Mr G Madhavan Nair, Chairman, ISRO, during their visits to HEC and this will help the company increase its business in strategic sectors such as nuclear and space."

Mr Pillai said that in 2008-09, HEC secured orders worth INR 1,653 crore which was 316% higher than those in the previous year.

Some of the prestigious orders included those for new ore bedding and blending plant and base blending facilities from Rourkela Steel Plant, for coal handling plant from Bhilai Steel Plant, shovels from Coal India Ltd and 14 machine tools.
