Ford Likely to close Foundry in Britain
According to news reports, Ford Motor Co. will close its foundry in Leamington, UK, where it manufactures brake drums and disks. High production costs in UK has prompted the decision.
Ford employs about 400 workers at Leamington out of which approx 350 are workers engaged in foundry.
Ford’s two cost-saving proposals were rejected by the workers. According to a Ford’s spokesman no one will be retrenched & the interested workers are likely to be accommodated in a Ford distribution center in Daventry, UK and the others will be provided with compensation package.
The closure is likely to begin in July 07.Ford plans to offload the UK facilities production to European vendors.
