Brief Report on 55th Indian Foundry Congress & IFEX 2007 ( International Foundry Exhibition) held at Jaypee Palace Hotel & Convention Centre Agra from 2nd February to 4th February 2007.

The Institute of Indian Foundrymen (Affiliated Member of World Foundrymen Organization), CII & EEPC organized & successful concluded the 55th Indian Foundry Congress concurrently with the foundry exhibition showcasing the latest in foundry technology at Agra from 2nd February to 4th February 2007.

The event was supported by DIPP, Ministry of Commerce & Industry ,The Ministry of Small Scale Industries & The Ministry of Science & Technology,Govt. of India

The Exhibition was inaugurated by The Secretary Ministry of SSI, Dr. Chandra Pal on 2nd February 2007 at Jaypee Palace Hotel Agra & the Congress was inaugurated by Dr. V. Krishnamurthy Chairman, National Manufacturing Competitiveness Council,Govt.of India

The congress was attended by approx 1300 delegates from India & abroad & 140 companies from India & Abroad participated in International Foundry Exhibition which was visited by approx 8000 foundrymen. The delegates were from leading foundry units, academicians from leading Institute like IITs, Leading equipment & material suppliers, foundry consultants. Italian Trade Commission & VDMA Germany,Pakistan Foundry Association also participated besides major organizations from India & Abroad.

The main objectives were to disseminate knowledge amongst the Indian Foundrymen about the best technology available in their respective fields, to motivate them to adopt latest technologies & to be globally competitive & prepare for the opportunities for becoming global hub for sourcing cast components & to arrange one to one meetings with the buyers including the overseas.

The main highlights were pleanary & other technical sessions on subjects on different foundry processes, innovative technologies, quality improvements, raw material scenario, usage of alternative materials, application of computers in foundry industry, energy economy in foundries, pollution control etc. these were conducted by renowned speakers.

The working of Cokeless Cupola. Which is first time introduced in India was demonstrated in operation to the delegates at the works of Anil Metal Agra. Which attracted lot of interest, as this is absolutely pollution free & also fuel-efficient.

The Techmart sessions were about the exposure to technological advancements made in various foundry technologies. Major Companies were as below who spoke on their products & recent development on the following topics.
  1. Die casting technology for the casting of zinc, magnesium and aluminum products.
  2. Quality control of molding sand through modern technology.
  3. Sample preparation for spectroscopy and application by microwave and high temperature furnaces in the foundry.
  4. From standard manually-controlled gravity die casting machines up to modern, automated productive casting cells.
  5. Reclamation and Separation of no-bade foundry sand.
  6. Closed loop cylinder drives in sand moulding machines.
  7. Low pressure casting : From concept stage to production line.
  8. Modern moulding technology for green sand moulding lines.
  9. Innovation and robot automation in the foundry.
  10. High efficiency Aluminium melting with the StrikoMelter technology.
  11. Modern vibration technology for the application in green sand and no-bake casting.
  12. Melting and Pouring In Induction furnaces-State of the Art.
Cast Source meet was held with the objective of bringing the potential suppliers & exporters to have one to one meeting with the buyers where the suppliers were apprised of the buyers expectations from sellers in today's global environment & the methodologies to be adopted to be successful. Several useful business enquiries were generated for supply of cast & machined components, foundry equipment, materials & services, which will give fillip to the Indian Foundry Industry. Total serious business enquires generated were approximately Rs. 350 crores.&

Overall it was very successful event & is expected to give boost to the Indian Foundry Industry, which is one of the major contributors to the Auto Industry & is on the threshold of becoming major source of cost components globally with the efforts from the industry in right direction & with strategic support by the Government.

On this occasion, the Institute also released The Technical Transactions & the Souvenir which will be a very useful reference for the Foundrymen
