ndian scrap imports plunge in Apr y-o-y
Date: 06/08/2020

According to statistics, the imports of Indian scrap, under HS code 7204, totaled around 234,000 tons in April, plunging by 67% compared to the same month a year ago, which have fallen for three consecutive months. The decrease was due to national COVID-19 epidemic prevention measures implemented by the government, which led to a production cut at Indian steel mills. Among the imports in April, the volume from the US accounted for the largest proportion, totaling around 54,000 tons, a year-on-year decrease of 32%. The UK and the UAE ranked after the US, with a separate volume of roughly 24,500 tons and 18,000 tons, dropping by 75% and 85% year on year respectively. In the first four months of this year, India totally imported 1.76 million tons of scrap, sliding by 30% from the same period of last year.
