LME zinc slips 2% in complex-wide downturn; C/3M spread widens
Date: 09/09/2020

The London Metal Exchange three-month zinc price lagged in morning trading on Tuesday September 8, tumbling by some 2% despite a widening in its forward curve, while fresh concerns of US-Sino trade tensions and rising coronavirus cases pushed the complex lower. Total global coronavirus cases are now at more than 27 million, with total deaths now at 887,526, World Health Organisation (WHO) data shows, while many European countries continue to face re-emerging waves of the virus. US President Trump vowed to take a continued protectionist stance against trade relations with China on Monday, suggesting that a presidential win for opponent Joe Biden would allow China to take greater control of US industry through trade. LME zinc’s outright price was recently trading at $2,456.50 per tonne
