It was understood from an official of the Ministry of Commerce of India that the said on Tuesday (4th) that the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) planned to complete the mandatory quality standards for 371 items by March 31, 2021. The target products include steel, chemical products, electrical equipment, pharmaceuticals, toys, furniture, and so forth. The move was to prevent sub-standard and non-essential products into India, especially for imports from China. The quality standard inspection will be strictly put into force at all destination ports in India. According to the Steel and Steel Products (Quality Control) Order, foreign products without certification by the BIS are not allowed to be produced, distributed, sold, or imported in India.
